Som Tom salad 2
Ingredients:
- 1 small green papaya, peeled and grated
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2-3 Thai bird's eye chilies, minced (or to taste)
- 1-2 tablespoons palm sugar (or brown sugar)
- 2 tablespoons fish sauce
- 2 tablespoons lime juice
- 1 small tomato, cut into small wedges
- 2-3 tablespoons roasted peanuts, coarsely chopped
- 2-3 tablespoons dried shrimp (optional)
- 1-2 tablespoons tamarind paste (optional)
Instructions:
Begin by preparing the papaya. Cut it into thin strips or use a shredder or mandolin to create thin shreds. Place the papaya in a large mixing bowl.
Add the garlic, chilies, sugar, fish sauce, and lime juice to the mixing bowl. Use a spoon or spatula to mix everything together well.
Add the tomato wedges, peanuts, and dried shrimp (if using) to the mixing bowl. Toss everything together again.
Taste the salad and adjust the seasoning as needed. You can add more fish sauce for saltiness, sugar for sweetness, or lime juice for acidity.
Optional step: If you want to add more sourness to the salad, you can mix in tamarind paste at this point. Add 1-2 tablespoons of tamarind paste to the salad and mix well.
Serve the salad immediately, garnished with additional chopped peanuts and wedges of lime. Enjoy!
